Rebuilding the Parthenon in Athens
When we visited the Parthenon shortly before the 2004 Olympics we discovered that there was a lot of work going on behind the scenes to restore the structure.
Check out Frommer's Travel Guides for a lot of good local travel information:

A few of the supporting pillars have been put back in place after painstaking restoration and refitting.
16 Years Later in 2002
If you look closely at the picture behind us you will see a lot of construction equipment and scaffolding.
Every piece that can be has been taken down, catalogued, cleaned, restored and is waiting to be put back into it's rightful place. For over 2000 years this incredible and beautiful building has epitomized the blending of engineering genius and beauty.
This project has gone on for years. No one knows how long it will take to finish the job.
I am including a couple of videos that show some of the reconstruction and some of the visual tricks that the builders played on us.

Epilogue
I hope to see you at the Parthenon when it has been completely restored to its original beauty and majesty.
